Zadara Storage is excited to announce its newest feature, which makes it easy to adjust one’s trade-offs among price, protection and performance. We’ve always had agility, i.e., the ability to make changes easily, quickly and without penalty, at the core of our philosophy. This new capability fits right in because it means customers can now seamlessly shift their data to pools of different drive types, drive counts, drive rotational speeds and/or RAID levels with no application downtime.
Online Volume Migration
Let’s take an example to help illustrate where and how customers can use this feature. A typical customer may choose to start by striping her data across our extremely cost-effective 5TB drives. At some point she may need that data to be available on higher performance drives, whether high-RPM SAS HDDs or SSDs. With Online Pool Migration she can easily – and seamlessly – migrate her data to different underlying configurations without any downtime. Our customer with the 5TB drives can easily test high-performance SAS drives or SSDs to see which better fits her performance and cost demands, make a decision on the fly, and migrate to the drive type of her choice without ever stopping her application. If she later no longer requires the added performance, she can just as easily change back to 5TB drives.
