Cutting storage management and costs in half: Moving from GlusterFS to Zadara VPSA at AWS

time money

For businesses to run more efficiently and effectively, reducing the time required for storage management is as important as reducing its overall cost; most often these two are contingent on one another.

This morning we announced our latest customer win: Moonami Learning Solutions. Moonami was looking for agile, flexible storage to support the company growth, but their existing solution, leveraging GlusterFS at AWS, became expensive and time consuming to manage. Even more problematic was their inability to provide rapid recovery of data for their clients, hindering their service capabilities.

Moonami found the solution to their challenges using Zadara VPSA using our seamless Backup to S3 (B2S3) feature that lets them create an automatic, snapshot-based, continuous, incremental backup to low-cost, Amazon S3 object storage.

Saving 50% of time and 45% of cost

By eliminating its use of GlusterFS storage and deploying Zadara’s enterprise-grade NFS and CIFS storage co-located adjacent to AWS East 1,  Moonami is saving approximately 20 hours of IT time each week- nearly half of a full-time administrator’s role- from the daily headaches of managing the storage resource.

This is extra time that Moonami’s savvy IT team is now allocating to more business-impactful activities. The move also lowered Moonami’s total storage costs by 45%.
